Just a quick update to say that after taking the subway, a train, a plane and then another train we have arrived safe and sound in our new home of Gävle Sweden.
We got the keys to our new apartment which is in a great location just a couple blocks from the main train station in the middle of downtown. So we are close to shopping and other amenities as well which should make things run much smoother. The apartment is empty so we’ll spend the next couple of days outfitting it hopefully with second hand items from local thrift shops and maybe a trip to IKEA (Catherine is always excited for that).
We also need to get our country-wide ID numbers, bank accounts, credit cards, Internet connection, etc. We kind have an idea of what new immigrants must feel except we’re lucky that we can generally communicate since most everyone can speak English. I’m sure there will be some bumps in the road (to provide content for the blog…)
For the next couple nights we stay at an apartment provided by the University so we have a home base while our actual apartment gets outfitted. The first order of business is to get up early tomorrow and do laundry some of which has been dirty for weeks. At our new place you need to book time when you have exclusive use of the laundry facilities. The only available time in the next couple days was 7-10AM tomorrow so we took it.
Got to get to bed now, but here are a couple pictures. I’m sure there will be lots more to share in the next few days.
Welcome home! Have fun outfitting – i know it will feel like yours in no time, with thoughtful-creative-Catherine touches. Hugs to you both.~b
