Dad turned 70 this month, so we had a ‘tropical island’ themed backyard party. It was smaller and more chill than Mom’s October blowout, more in line with what Dad was looking for.
I arrived on Saturday morning to help make the food: we had grilled jerk chicken skewers, coconut red beans and rice, marinated veggies, shrimp and orzo salad, homemade mexi-dip and guacamole, and bean salad. We also had awesome desserts: pudim con leite, sponge cake with whipped cream and strawberries, pineapple upside-down cake, fruit kabobs and other awesome cookies etc. There was enough leftover to send some home with folks and for Mom and Dad to have a few days of leftovers.
The weather was mercifully dry with sunny sections, so it was perfect for an outdoor event. Instead of a regular gift, I booked a steel drum/guitarist for entertainment. This ended up working perfectly, it was really fun, fit the vibe of the party, and Dad and all the guests loved it. Here are some photos from Elizabeth:
