So far March has been pretty cold and really snowy. Â Since coming back from Christmas break, it has snowed at least twice per week, meaning that things are almost always clean and white and there has been good skiing whenever it wasn’t crazy cold. The snowpack is apparently three times normal, so we can expect a high and fast river with flooding when paddling season finally starts. I am not looking forward to zig-zagging around ice floes (not tall, visible bergs) throughout April.
Last year had very little snow, and my colleagues kept telling me what an easy winter it was for me to acclimatize to the prairies. They are all complaining heartily about all the snow, but I think this winter is much MUCH better. I don’t have to shovel or drive, so the weekly snow storms have not affected me in any way except to facilitate skiing.
I do wonder about all the animals hiding in burrows under the snow, but they have been doing this a long time, so I’m sure we’ll see them when the snow melts. Graham sent me a photo of cherry blossoms in Vancouver, but I think it will take some time for the snow to recede and reveals the grey hay underneath. 😛 I brought some branches inside in a vase and have been trying to coax the leaves out… they are green now.
Beautiful snow – we may have to come visit you guys soon if we want to ski. Nothing but rain in the forecast here..
